LVHRD presents WRK/PLY

WRK/PLY Conference will be a day long creativity conference at the end of March, challenging the conventions of work and play. The WRK/PLY experience serves up a 50/50 split. Our panel of six speakers, each specifically chosen for his or her success blending play into their work lives, will construct interactive elements designed to emphasize the value of constructive play.

A presenter selected from each of the following categories will speak about both the work and play facets of their lives:

Throughout the day, you will be asked to put your new found WRK/PLY skills into action at our official WRK/PLY open bar, sponsored by Dewar's and Brooklyn Brewery. Included with your purchase is a two-year subscription to Time Out New York (a $39.94 value)*.

LOCATION: While LVHRD does not reveal the location of its events until the day before, when a text message with the exact location is sent to all ticket holders, we will divulge the following.

WRK/PLY will take place in a venue on the border of SoHo and Tribeca.

PRESENTERS:

DESIGN + ARCHITECTURE: dress code: does design

Andre Andreev and G. Dan Covert are the men behind the award winning graphic design firm dress code, where they have been infiltrating public consciousness through motion and print projects for MTV, as well as with their new book Never Sleep, and their student resource website Fun Is Learning.

ART + PHOTOGRAPHY: Chris Rubino
Co-founder of Bearduary and not the only Young Gun speaking at WRK/PLY, Chris Rubino has developed an amazing portfolio with projects for The New York Times, Urban Outfitters, Samsung, and Bloomingdales (to name just a few), as well as pieces in the permanant collection at the Museum of Design in Zurich.

CULTURE + LIFESTYLE: Steve Hindy
Former A.P. war correspondent, Steve Hindy moved to Brooklyn and co-founded Brooklyn Brewery in 1987. Balancing aggressive union leaders, neighborhood resistance and rising rents, Hindy has still managed to build a globally-renowned craft brewery and a top 5 draft beer in NYC.

FASHION + STYLE: Rebecca Turbow
Rebecca Turbow of Safe Clothes has made her unique and eccentric presence known in the fashion world for over 5 years now, continually creating whimsical, beautiful collections that are anything but safe. Often the collections feature one monochromatic scheme lightened with a few different accents. Turbow herself has recently changed from an only-turquoise palate to a sleek gray-sliver-charcoal “uniform”—even the soles of her shoes must match her favored aesthetic. The Safe Clothes line is now a hot-commodity in high fashion, with famous clients like Of Montreal and the Ting Ting's among her roster. Despite running a serious fashion company, Turbow has never lost her fanciful and effervescent attitude towards her designs. Recent photos from the new Spring 09 lookbook, set in an elegant Upper-West-Side apartment, ran the gauntlet from cheeky and fun to gorgeous and provocative.

MUSIC + PERFORMANCE: 88-Keys and Izza Kizza
88-Keys is an influential producer who has worked with the likes of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Scarface as well as an up-and-coming rapper who features Kanye West, Redman, and Kid Cudi, on his debut album The Death of Adam. The video for his recent single Stay Up! (Viagra) Feat. Kanye West just hit MTV with makeup by the guy who zombified Thriller, and it stars 88 and Kanye as elderly men out on the town.

Izza Kizza recently debuted his mile-a-min funky flow on his Nick Catchdubs Produced KIZZALAND Mixtape. Fader Mag says “HOLY SHIT this dude raps like Timbaland sounds! He’s like a male Missy. Or maybe a rap R Kelly.” Look out for his new Catchdubs produced Wizard Of Izz mix-tape coming to the streets near you.

MEDIA + TECHNOLOGY: Gavin McInnes

Since 1994, Gavin McInnes has been making you laugh your ass off despite yourself. The Canadian native created Vice Magazine with friends Suroosh Alvi and Shane Smith and turned it into a multifaceted phenomenon. The publication, started as a low-budget affair, has since turned into a sort-of Bible to the underground street culture of cities across the globe. He is easily the most recognizable writer from Vice, even since leaving the company in 2007, thanks to his often offensive and always hilarious articles. Recently, McInnes has continued to entertain us through his new venture, Street Carnage. Street Carnage’s Street Boners perpetuate his Viceland DOs and DON’Ts legacy by simultaneously mocking and celebrating the hipster fashions of New York, his videos are a platform for his increasingly professional, but nonetheless outrageous video shorts, and Gavin stars in the film Asshole which recently debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.
